It had been a long time since the Salamanca football team had allowed 49 or more points in a regular season game. In fact, it had been a streak of four years, five months and 17 days that was officially snapped by a Southwestern/Frewsburg team equipped with, statistically, the most potent offense in all of Western New York. This year, Southwestern, newly merged with Frewsburg, returned the favor by handing Salamanca a 49-7 loss at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Portville football program has been waiting a while to get a win over C South rivals Salamanca. In fact, the last time the Panthers defeated the Warriors was all the way back during the shortened season in 2020. On Oct. 3, that wait finally came to an end with a 28-8 victory. Salamanca saw an emotional 2023 season come to a heartbreaking end in the NYS semifinal. The Warriors were shutout 42-0 by eventual state champion Waverly and with the result came the loss of a number of key pieces to the team. In turn, entering the 2024–25 season, the big question being posed for the Warriors was whether or not they would be able to recreate the success. Spoiler alert: they did, and then some.
